Cellar Chronicles: Blue Mountain Wineries Edition

The VanderMarck Boutique Hotel prides itself on privacy and quiet luxury. Nestled in Collingwood, Ontario, it’s a destination itself, yet it is also near many other local businesses – including wineries – that contribute to making this area a special place.

Pack your bags for the VanderMarck and bring your appreciation for the good life as you prepare to explore our property and the several wineries within an hour’s drive from our door.

The Roost

The Roost in the Blue Mountains is an approximately 20-minute drive and almost a straight shot from the VanderMarck, making it an easy-to-get-to locale with stunning scenery awaiting you. Enjoy sustainably farmed wines on a charming property that features a 19th-century barn.

Walk-ins are available if you’re visiting to enjoy food, wines by the glass, and tasting flights, but reservations are necessary for group tastings and deluxe tastings. Tours are available, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere from a different perspective.

Full disclosure, we’re completely biased when we list The Roost first as their 2023 L’Acadie Reserve is our favourite white wine, literally anywhere!

Georgian Hills Vineyards

Take a short 23-minute drive along the coast of Georgian Bay to get to Georgian Hills Vineyards. This small Blue Mountains winery offers food, tasting flights, ciders, and wines by the glass that you can enjoy indoors or out any day of the week. Reservations are recommended. Live music is available on the patio during Wine Wednesdays in the summer.

Coffin Ridge Vineyard & Winery

A worthwhile drive along the coast of the Georgian Bay will get you to Coffin Ridge Vineyard & Winery in about an hour. Walk-ins and reservations are available for food, ciders, and wines at this boutique winery overlooking the bay. It’s not just an amazing view, it’s probably the best view from a winery in the area and that’s saying something.

Tasting flights consisting of three vegan wines/ciders are available. If you get hungry, a Vintner’s Plate is available, or you can buy pizza only on Saturdays. You can also visit Kilannan (Brewery) at Coffin Ridge, which is on the premises.

Adamo Estate Winery

Adamo Estate Winery in Mono is nearly a 57-minute drive from our hotel but if you’re out and about anyways…

This lovely location offers a variety of options, including a tasting flight featuring four wines. Love chocolate? Make sure to request the Chocolate and Wine Tasting.

Those who want to gain in-depth knowledge to enhance their experience can consider opting for the Tasting and Tour, which consists of a guided walking tour and tasting two wines. Food is available, including shared and small plates. The winery also hosts a brunch on Sundays.

Wine Experience Packages at the VanderMarck

After visiting one or more wineries near the VanderMarck Hotel, you’ll undoubtedly want to bring some wine home with you; we have you covered if you’d rather not open your bottle just yet. If you appreciate fine wine, we offer two options to enhance your stay.

We’ve teamed up with Chef Justin at Cabin Kitchen, so wine and a charcuterie board—complete with the appropriate accoutrements, of course—will be waiting for you when you walk into your suite. Please contact us to request this decadent package

You’ll also want to check out our Wine & Cheese Tasting Package, a partnership with the fabulous local Dags & Willow Fine Cheese and Gourmet Shop. It consists of several perks, including a discount. Parking is available if you prefer to drive to the location, or you can opt for a brief three-minute walk.

Bringing Wine Home After Your Vacation

We want to ensure all our guests return home with wine bottles intact. We suggest packing bubble wrap and canvas tote bags with sturdy handles if you do not have wine carriers.

You can surround each bottle with wrap and strategically place them in a tote so they’re snug together and won’t move around. While there are no guarantees, this can increase your chances of getting all your favourite new bottles home in one piece.

Notes About Visiting Wineries Near the VanderMarck

Please note that the summer tends to be the busiest for us and our nearby wineries, but other times of the year can also be busy, especially if popular events are happening at the winery or nearby. We recommend making reservations as soon as possible to ensure you get the experience you’re looking for.

Depending on the winery, hours may change monthly and/or seasonally, and they may be closed during certain Canadian holidays. Due to cold-weather conditions in and near Collingwood, some or all of the wineries’ outdoor areas may not be open in late fall or winter.

We suggest contacting the respective winery with any questions, such as their reservation policies and whether you’re dining inside or out, their business hours at the time you’d like to visit, and whether the staff can accommodate your dietary restrictions.
