When the sun goes down, there’s nothing quite like popping on your skis or snowboard and flying through the snow for some exhilarating night skiing. Nights in the Blue Mountain area hold a little extra magic. A touch of mystery intertwined with the beauty of the natural surroundings make for an unforgettable experience.

With The VanderMarck Boutique Hotel just a 15-minute drive from Blue Mountain, you can merge luxury and tranquility with excitement. Here are all the details on the 2025 – 2026 night skiing season so you can start planning your getaway.

Night Skiing Details

Night skiing is available for the 2025 – 2026 season at Blue Mountain, the premier ski hill in The Blue Mountains, a charming town in central Ontario. The season kicked off on December 9th and typically runs until early or mid-April, depending on the weather. Thirty of Blue’s 43 ski trails are lit for night skiing, making it easy to choose one that’s ideal for you. Rental equipment is available if you don’t have it or are short on packing space.

Skiing at the resort happens daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., so you can ski all day and into the evening, catching the sunset from the slopes. Day lift tickets are valid for 8 hours from the time of redemption. Night lift tickets give you access from 3:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Pricing varies based on several factors, including your age and whether you purchase online or at the ski hill. Please note that hours may be subject to change, so it’s ideal to confirm in advance of buying your tickets.

Is Night Skiing More Difficult?

Skiing at night is very different from skiing during the day. The lights used to illuminate the hill impact visibility and can create shadows that make the activity more challenging, especially for beginners. On busy nights, you may find the easier runs more crowded since there are fewer runs open at night than during the day.

Stay on marked trails and avoid taking unnecessary risks. Night skiing is exciting, but it’s not without its risks, especially if you don’t stay in the designated areas. Consider carrying a tracker and a fully charged cell phone in case of emergencies. And always ski with a partner – it’s safer and more fun!

Keep in mind that with the freeze-thaw cycle, the hills can be icier at night. It’s crucial to dress warmer than you would for daytime skiing due to the drop in temperatures from day to night.

How to Dress for Skiing at Night

The winter wind and cold temperatures can be brutal at night, so you don’t want to leave any part of your skin exposed. Dress in layers that provide insulation without bulk. It’s ideal to have a waterproof outer layer and an insulating mid-layer. Your base layer should be thin, warm and moisture-wicking; think, thermal long underwear that’s comfortable and will move with you.

The key is to dress warmly without overdressing to the point that it impacts your movement. Make sure to pack plenty of warm accessories, such as a neck gaiter, gloves, thick socks, and a face mask. The brighter and more reflective your outer layer, the better, so other skiers can easily see you.

You’ll find plenty of gear, such as helmets, gloves, and neck gaiters, that offer heated technology. Disposable hand warmers and feet warmers are also a great option for those extra chilly nights.
